Our highly competitive society places a premium on a youthful look. A wide variety of medical lasers and light systems are used to remove hair and rejuvenate the skin. However, each laser is not effective for all skin types and hair colors. This means patients have to visit multiple practices to achieve their desired results. The new AURORA system from SYNERON uses a technology called ELOS. It combines Optical and Radio Frequency (RF) to deliver satisfying, longer-lasting results. With this technology, patients can enjoy the results they desire regardless of the color of their hair or skin type.

How is the AURORA/ELOS system different from other laser systems?

First: The AURORA/ELOS system is the only system that can rejuvenate the skin and get rid of the “Peach Fuzz” (tiny white and blonde hairs) that other lasers miss.

Second: The AURORA/ELOS system uses optical energy to heat the hair shaft, combined with radio frequency, which heats and coagulates the follicle itself. The radio frequency is safer because it is not affected by skin color.

Third: The AURORA/ELOS technology is also wonderful for rejuvenating the skin of the face, neck, chest and arms.

What areas can be treated with AURORA/ELOS?

Because this system treats hundreds of hairs at a time, it is easy to treat small or large areas such as the back, shoulders, arms, legs, face and neck. Best of all, hair removal with AURORA energy is a safe, fast, gentle and effective method for hair removal for all skin types, including dark pigmented skin. ELOS produces the desired hair loss without any of the potential side effects seen with other laser systems.

How many treatments will I need?

Skin rejuvenation treatments are administered every four weeks. Age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet, medication, metabolism and sun exposure all play a part in your skin’s condition. The number of skin rejuvenation treatments depends on the area treated, your expectations and your goals. Usually, 3 - 5 treatments are sufficient. Hair removal usually requires multiple treatments. For some people 2 - 3 treatments are sufficient; however, black or white hair responds at different rates. Most patients receive treatments until they achieve their desired results.

What are the treatments like?

AURORA/ELOS RF treatments are a gentle process. First, your doctor cleanses the area to be treated. Then a thin layer of gel is applied to the skin. The application tip will feel very cold and when the pulse is administered there is a momentary sensation that is easily tolerated. Treatments can last from a few minutes to a few hours depending on the size of the area being treated.

Following treatment

After your treatment, the area is cleansed and you can return to your normal activities immediately. Your physician may recommend that you use a specially-formulated skin care product line or prescribe a skin care regime especially formulated for your skin type after laser treatments. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun.
